Like the rest of you, the few months and particularly the last month have not gone at all like we had planned. We know many plans have been postponed or canceled altogether, causing a great sadness for many. Church services, weddings, birthday parties, and graduation ceremonies are no longer being held, including the graduation from college of our two oldest children. They both had to come home about a month ago and there are now no plans for any graduation festivities which has saddened us all, as we had much to look forward to in that regard. We can be assured that our God is in control of all things.
When we left Paraguay last August, we had every intention of returning to Paraguay this year. We had no way of knowing what awaited us during our home assignment, not the least of which is this covid-19.
In our first month of being stateside, Bill was asked to consider a position at Ethnos360 in Sanford, Florida. We shared this news with our church elders, prayed, and considered that position. Shortly after that offer, Bill was approached with an opportunity to serve with MissioServe, formerly known as Bible Basics International (BBI), a ministry based here on our side of Florida. Our knee-jerk reaction to that offer was “no”, which we told them but our spirits were not at peace within us.
However, we need to go back a bit. As you may or may not remember, our sending church pastor stepped down a month before our arrival in Paraguay. We were surprised by his announcement but found a local church willing to take us on, as a result of an existing relationship with the pastor of that church. A month after our arrival to Paraguay, our former church completely folded.
These past months while on home assignment, we have begun to get to know our “new” sending church and its elders. Through this time, they have taken on a greater role in the direction of our ministry. As we’ve been seeking their prayers and counsel, they came to a unanimous consensus that we should serve with MissioServe, but still left the ultimate decision with us. As we sought Scripture and prayed about what being sent out from a local church should look like, we were convinced that we should join MissioServe in submission to our church leadership.
We have formally announced our resignation from Ethnos360, but as in all things, we trust that God is sovereignly leading and guiding us. Pray with us that we will submit well to His ways. Our time with Ethnos360 will officially come to an end on June 30th. We have much to work through during this transition and greatly appreciate your patience and continued prayers on our behalf. We are working through details with both ministries in the hopes of making a smooth transition. Be looking for our next update in which we will share the where, when, and how’s. We hope and pray that your prayers and support will continue with us. We imagine that this announcement has taken many of you by great surprise. Please do not hesitate to ask us your questions. Reach us by phone, text, email, or even messenger, whichever way is most convenient for you.
